Chainlinksqueeks through Long Beach and the I.E.!
Glorious!! Glorious! Hot.. 4th of July weekend it was.
I had to take a little nappy after work for i knew the weekend should be eventful. And unlike most naps attempted of late.. it was successful. I had plans to be at a barbecue in Riverside on the fourth at the ‘Dagger in my heart’s’ castle, it’s near the Mission Inn. Definitely didn’t want to drive on the fourth so i left at about 1am after my nap and the traffic was smooth. Phew! I was wide awake once i got there and no sleepy time brew to be found. That was Mr. D’s fault, he should have had something waiting for me. But it was alright, Dagger and i watched the Bela Lugosi flick “Murders in the Rue Morgue” that was loaned out to us by Major Tom. I couldn’t hear a word with the fan humming over everything, but the visuals were relaxing and enough to get the feel, as well as creep into my subconscious, which is creepy enough.
The heat woke me up before I wanted to get up. The sun was telling me I was ready to have a beer and the day expected it, but i knew with my creators Major Tom and Jean Genie visiting D’s castle for the first time it would be a good idea to NOT be sloppy before everyone got there. Besides, i really only had one thing on my mind which was taco’s, quesadillas and burritos from the Bake Show, but it would have to wait. The ‘first twin kitchen’ was squashed by Dagger’s hankering for Normie’s, which was fine because i had a glorious and patriotic plate of eggs and bakey with a redcoat muffin that i ate like I was Mel Gibson and it killed my son and taken another.. gGRaAAWR!! Ok, some time’s gone by, some food in my belly; time to get something cold and American to drink. Bud, Miller, plenty of something watered-down and cheap would do, although Stella’s and Pacifico’s would surely find they’re way into my festivities. I believe “Woman! Take me to the market!” were my words, so that’s where we went. After that it was one more trip to the market with Mr. D to get ice, foil and Grolsch and then waiting.
Major Tom and Peggy Sue were the first to show, then Jean Genie and Jim Dean were next with wonderful taco’s. I had chicken but there were bean one’s too for all the veggies, which actually went first for some reason. Drewabilly, T. Killa and Ron K. trailed in last of the people i was expecting. My crew was there and the heat was bearable under the garden canopy with the misters pumping. I was glad to be alive and thankful my tribe of peep’s made it. It was missing a Shotgun Nate, but I knew an english bulldog George’s was keeping him back. The night carried on with loud music, Arctic’s, Bowie, Shambles and Cramps dominated the environment. Faces old and new came and went and somehow my beer was always empty. My baby-darlin-honey-boo-bear went with Ash’s and beau to get some tequila. When they got back that’s when the night started to slip away.
We were in the Garden, we were down in the basement with the amps, mics, guitars, bass and drums. We were out front under the trellis, we were in ‘the dagger in my heart’s’ room, pictures and more fucking pictures, we were down the street next to the cemetary, i don’t remember ever taking a step or feeling the ground. i was laying down in the dark, in a room next to giant windows and the tree’s were stretching through the window’s and blocking the sun that was just going down. People came in and spoke over me, they stared, they swayed about and walked out. I planned on getting up and sipped my beer while i was laying there. Suddenly it felt like i was gone forever. It was silent and it seemed like everyone left, i waited and no one ever turned the light on and eventually i slipped into the darkness.
when you live in long beach it’s hard to leave. it’s one of the few places in southern california perfectly designed to get around without a car. i lived in echo park and it was easier to leave. nice, but no problem being convinced to leave. there were even good bars in walking distance, but everyone’s pretending it’s leisurely. Even in silver lake; nice, but any sign of apreciating the pleasant and daring sun of california is to blaringly obvious to be shiek. Aside from the traffic of course (which is really what the mass of outsiders that occupy greater Los Angeles harbor against the rest of the community (even natives. How dare they!)), there are to many things to appreciate in southern california, for everyone, for there to be such poor and jaded attitudes. it’s usually contrived and spreads like some fad, because most people can not have lived long enough or deserve anywhere near the sympathy for the despair they’ve reached. Or, are projecting.
So, thats why i’m in long beach and on a day like the fourth of july with the fireworks over the ocean by the Queen Mary, it’s hard to leave. But i know i’ll have plenty of time to catch fireworks and enjoy long beach, and sometimes on such glorious weekends as this fourth of july weekend you gotta be were the action is. And the action is where your people are, or want to be too. So i put myself were i thought i could get the most people that i cared to see in the same place at the same time, and i knew like many fourth of july’s passed i could count on the D’s Castle.
